A while back I had posted
a small haul on the products I had purchased from the Dr. Organic
range (you can read the post here). The Snail Gel mask being the most
unusual product and one that I had never tried before or had heard
of, was something I had promised everyone that I would review, so
without further ado, here it is!
The mask itself
contains Helix Aspersa Muller Secretion (that's a mouthful to say!)
which is a substance that snails produce to protect and regenerate
it's shell and skin when damaged. Please note that this also means
that the snail itself is not harmed for the making of the product.
Ingredients such as Jojoba Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, May Chang
Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Lime Oil, Macadamia Seed Oil and Sweet Almond
Oil are also included. Essentially snail gel or cream is a well-known
solution for moisture, as well as healing, soothing, purifying and
working as a remarkable anti-ageing product.
When first opening the
sachet I was expecting to see a clear, slimy and sticky substance (
like the trail a snail leaves when whizzing around ), I was entirely
wrong and found an extremely thick, creamy texture, very very similar
to the Coconut Oil Moisturiser that I had also purchased from the Dr.
Organic range. When applying the face mask to my skin, I found the
fragrance quite overpowering and exceedingly citrusy due to the
Lemongrass and Lime Oil, this was a bit off putting, and got a little
sickly after a while. I left the mask on for approximately 15-20
mins.
The directions on the
back of the packaging state: Use once a week as part of your
cleansing regime. Apply face mask evenly over whole face avoiding
eyes and lips. Relax for 10 minutes and allow to dry, then remove
with warm water or a damp cloth/flannel.
I left the product on
for a longer amount of time due to there being far too much in the
sachet provided. I feel that there could've been up to five uses,
maybe even more depending on the amount you decide to use. Due to the
packaging fault being similar to a ketchup sachet, once ripped open
there's no going back. It would be impossible to store and reuse any
of the leftover mask, I tried to use as much as possible, but the
smell was just.. yuck. I used a warm flannel to wash off the mask, as
the consistency was thick, I probably wouldn't suggest trying to
remove the mask with just your hands and water.
My skin was extremely
soft and radiant the next few days. It did it's job, but it wasn't a
product that I fell in love with, and not something that I would
re-purchase again and again. I could still smell the product on my
face the next day, even after showering which was horrendous, and due
to a few of it's faults it left me a little bit disappointed. I don't
think I would purchase the Snail Mask again, unless my skin
desperately lacked in moisture.
Would you ever try a product containing Snail Gel?
